We had two moose waiting for their birch buffet this morning. When we drove up to harvest another tree for firewood, they both took their places out of our way. The first one found her spot under a spruce tree about thirty feet away and laid down. The chain saw didn’t even seem to bother her. She knows that when we leave, she gets to eat. The other one is still a bit skittish. She got a little farther into the forest and hid behind some trees.

We worked with one eye on the moose. We know they are dangerous, but they are enjoyable to watch. Not very often do we get to see one relaxed. While the hubby cut a tree down, I took pictures and enjoyed seeing the cow twitch her ears and look around. When the tree fell, the moose got up for a moment, turned around, then laid back down facing the opposite direction. There for a second, I thought she was going to come right over for her breakfast!

You are truly an inspiration! I would move there in a heartbeat but with 9 grandkids within 10 miles of us it would be very hard ? I have visited Alaska twice in the past 7 months. I went in July/August 2019 and February 2020. 2 totally different trips. In February I went by myself to Fairbanks and the North Pole are. I went on an excursion along the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Coldfoot Camp. It was a truly amazing sight seeing the frozen Yukon River and sledding onto it. Seeing the Alaskan Pipeline was unreal. My Dad did the Alaskan Pipeline trip back in 1982. I did almost the same trip that he did. Except he went in the summer. I really feel so comfortable there and hope to visit more often to explore the beauty Alaska has to offer. I went to the Artic Circle and stayed overnight at Coldfoot Camp. We drove all the way(414 miles) up there. We were supposed to fly back but it snowed. We had to drive back. It was a great way to really see everything. When I went in July/August last year I went with my cousin. We went to Anchorage, Seward, Girdwood, Whittier. We stayed in Anchorage for 2 days and did the Alaskan Railroad trip down to Seward. We rafted back for 2 hours and got back on the train. We went to Chinitna Bay to Bear Camp. It was built on an old homestead owned by Wayne Byers. We spent 24 hours there! Definitely an amazing experience. We took a helicopter up to a Glacier to go dog sledding. We went to the Kenai Fjords and saw Orcas, sea otters, puffins, Stella sea lions and seals. I saw the Holgate Glacier calving. I’m really in love with Alaska and will keep visiting!

    1. You have experienced and seen quite a bit in Alaska! We would like to do more traveling someday but leaving our home out in the bush is hard. I’m glad you experienced Alaska in two different seasons! Most people just come in the summer. I would love to hear more about the raft trip! That sounds like a really fun trip!
