Iditarod 2020
This time we had some friends here from Texas. Their 6-year old daughter made the experience even more magical. While waiting on the dogs to make it to Lake Creek, our neighbor, Roger, helped her make the world’s smallest snowman. She also found that she could pass the time by snacking on the snow. As we waited, the clouds cleared and the full moon came out to light the Iditarod Trail.
The dogs were late this year, but when they finally made their way around the bend, there were lots of hooping and hollering by the crowd who had gathered to wish them well. Our friends were surprised by how quiet the dogs were. They thought for sure they would be barking as they ran along, but they were quiet, intent on the job at hand (or paw). All we heard from the dog team was the pitter-patter of their paws and the swish of the musher’s sled.
Alaska is truly a special place. I’m thrilled we had the opportunity to share it with our friends. Our little friend even got to take a dog booty home that we found on the trail the next day!

Mackenzie loved seeing those dogs race by her. The experiences you gave our family during that visit were invaluable. We are so grateful to have you as our friends. After visiting you this winter, getting to stay in your beautiful home, and meeting some of the characters, reading your stories will feel like I am back in the cabin with you again and I can’t wait. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
It was our pleasure to host you and your family! Having that time to reconnect was priceless! I especially enjoyed seeing Mackenzie experience so many things for the first time, including SNOW! I hope you can come back to see us again sometime!
