This historic site was once the bustling center of activity for several copper mines. Visiting and learning how the Kennecott Mining Corporation extracted valuable copper from the rugged Alaskan mountains is interesting.

I was struck by the beautiful color of the buildings. I learned that red paint was the least expensive color available at the time. Cost considerations were crucial when constructing a remote mining town like Kennecott. Red paint allowed them to cover the buildings efficiently without breaking the bank.

Its structures and artifacts now stand as a testament to an ambitious time in Alaska’s rich history.

  1. Amazing photos! Loved your book and your acknowledgment and references to our Creator. I’ve never been to Alaska but have certainly fantasized about life in the bush. God’s best for you and your family.
